I would love to share with all of you the FREE program I designed for my RTOY advocacy! It is called Ride and Read! Any insight and or ideas that you could share would be fabulous. I have this idea - but am working on getting sponsors and grants etc. I would love if it could go global. SO many families could benefit from it! Check out more FREE info on my website; www.ginapepin.com. Here is the promotional video: https://www.canva.com/design/DAF6ok8DV0I/UWGwMq-QVjVyWoMSJrfnRQ/watch

How do you modify your teaching when you have a significant number of students out with illness? For example, today half my Kindergarten students are out sick today, and I am reviewing some ideas with the students who are here while introducing a few new things that I can review as students slowly return. How do you handle situations like this when one or more students are absent?

What are some great resources for digital field trips that you use? I ❤️ 💗 ❤️ cilc.org. My 5th graders in Kansas have met with the Smithsonian American Art Museum, rangers from the National Park Services, docents from the National Archives, as well as several other locales across the United States!! (BTW, all .gov type institutions are FREE, as well as many others).

How do you make learning Fry words or sight words fun/engaging for students? I have created game boards for my students to color in the words that they know. I have 20 words on each sheet. If the student does not know a word, I put a x on it and make flash cards for the student. The students really enjoy coloring the words that they know. It is also a great way for them to track their progress.

What curriculum do you use for classroom circles? I like to introduce my students to a circle by using this book called the Sharing circle. The animals in the story help the students learn how to resolve conflicts. We don't have a curriculum in my district, but we do teach our students how to handle conflicts in a peaceful way. I also use my circles to discuss how we can improve as a class as far as treating each other with respect.

How do you teach growth mindset? I love weaving this topic into my morning meetings. I read Giraffes Can’t Dance week one and we make a chart of things we can’t do yet. Students love using post-it notes and as we meet them through the year add new ones. One thing Ms. Ransey can’t do is jump rope and when I prove this at recess they realize we all have something we can’t do yet! What’s your favorite growth mindset lesson or read aloud?
