Does anyone else use ESGI to help assess their students? What assessments do you find most useful in Kindergarten?

How do you model ethics when working with student data?

Michigan uses IRIPs - Individual Reading Improvement Plans for students where data shows they are in need of a specific plan. These plans can look different across the state and the retention aspect of this law has now been removed.
Does your state require specific reading plans and processes to be in place? What does that look like in your district?

How do you ensure that students with severe speech and language articulation or receptive or expressive disabilities take appropriate routine assessments? For example a student that struggles with speaking fluently i.e. stutters may be omitted from one minute oral reading fluency benchmark testing. Students with specific articulation errors should also not be penalized for these errors during early literacy screeners and benchmark tests. Our district writes the articulations errors on the Acadience test booklet to avoid such penalties.

One thing that I hear teachers say is that they do not teach to the test. I feel that if the test is assessing the standards, and you are teaching the standards then you should teach to the test. I use the released test to show the students how questions are worded and how to look for patterns in the format. I liken the test as playing a game. The more a person knows the rules of a game, the better they will do. Likewise, the more a student understand the testing structure, the better they will do.
