We usually start with the Engineering and Design standards using Mystery Science and Picture STEM to help our students gain and grow essential problem solving, observation and inferring, and sense making skills they will use the rest of the school year.

We start with what is science, introduction to phenomena, science safety, and science practices. I also love to start with picture books that introduce growth mindset before diving into content.

I start with the nature of science. Going though and understanding exactly what science is, the tools used during science, and expectations for science time.

Opposing forces with levitating trains!

For primary it is growth cycles. So we plant seeds and/or watch and record caterpillars turn into butterflies.

In our class we always begin with the scientific method. Until stude ta grasp these concepts, any other hands on activities during the year become meaningless.

We have new curriculum this year. We are starting with energy.
