The count down to spring break is on in my school. This break brings us great relaxation and joy. Though we love our breaks the true joy of teaching happens with in my school setting! What has been a WIN for you lately? This time of year in first grade we are meeting so many goals and doing things we just knew we’d never do in August. Sometimes it’s as simple as tying a show. Many times it’s finishing a book or a tough math problem on our own, What’s your latest win or anything that’s brought you joy at school ?

I am so thankful for this question. Teaching is a wonderful profession but has its challenges at times. I think it is important that we celebrate each other and focus on positives. My win came from my 30 day countdown to the FAST test. I planned activities and lessons to help the students review for the test. I had a group of students who came to me with a plan to come in twice a week and study. So far there is a group of 10 that come in and work with each other, ask for help, and tutor others. I almost cried. I was very proud.

I do think it’s magic when you get to watch the students interact and learn from each other. When a teacher can sit back and watch this… wow!

A big win for me is having many of my red students in reading actually take their time and their reading scores have improved for Star 360 assessment tests. Also students that would not ask to read aloud are asking to do it now. I love seeing how their confidence has grown from the beginning of the school year to now.

From a jealous teacher, we do not have spring break. We had one day off on Good Friday.

I hope that everyone got their batteries charged to make it to the end.

My big win is that all my students made growth!! My favorite thing about this time of year in Kindergarten is seeing my students begin to more fluently use all the information I’ve been pouring into them for the last 7 months. They are becoming amazing readers and writers and mathematicians and scientists and so much more!! We have learned that slow and steady teaching helps them collect all they need to know so in March every year, the rubber hits the road and they are taking off!!
