How do you hold your students accountable during math centers? I give my students notebooks and they have to show how they solved math word problems or math fact families.
I have 3 stations for math centers/MTSS. For the games that match our math series, they have to record who they played and date stamp their work. For the iPad station, the website tracks who did what for me. For the last station which is worksheets related to skill development, I require one page completed (accurately) a week.
We have slides that we build together at the beginning of the year that include our expectations. One half of the slide shows what the students will look like when they are using math stations and the other half shows what students should sound like when doing math stations.
Setting expectations at the beginning of the year is key. Each of my rotations has a task sheet that needs to be completed. I also have "rotation captains" to help the students with accountability.
I give my students white boards, since I try to use less paper, to show their work. It is easily corrected. It can be represented algorithmically or representationally. If needed my students had access to manipulatives to work problems and they can show and explain that to me. It is important students not only show their work but verbally articulate that work.
