What is an effective tool that I can use in my classroom to support learning?

Anchor charts are great tools to support what your students are learning, keep students engaged, provide a visual to capture key information and to help your students be more independent.
You can use anchor charts to introduce a new concept, review what you have taught, and provide your students a visual reference.

Student accountability for learning. Two things come to mind, goal setting. When students know clearly what they are learning and their own level of understanding they have more ownership in reaching their goals.
Secondly, visible learning by John Hattie is an amazing support to student led accountability in their learning!
I model how to take notes and make connections of things they know to the texts. Some students have difficulty finding connections and how learning relates to every day life. They are used to teachers handing out assignments without the in depth meaning of why. For example, relating algebra to figuring out life problems.
I really like Classkick.com. It does so much. I record read alouds for my students who need that support. You can add self grading options which can be turned on and turned off. This gives students the ability to work on their own pace and get immediate feedback. I also like that they can scroll back to prior pages for answers. I could go on for a long time. If you want more information or screenshots of what I do, just ask.
I would encourage fellow educators to look into blended and mastery-based learning (Modern Classrooms Project provides a free introductory course). I find that this is a great way to maximize engagement and learning. One tool I use is a progress tracker, showing students progress as they complete tasks/objectives in our unit. This allows for students to see where they (and their peers) are at in the progression of the lesson and identify their own next steps.
