We are headed to the bowling alley tomorrow, and taking all 125 of our Kindergarten students along, to practice our force and motion standards. We will be exploring how various strengths of pushes affect how many pins are knocked down and the use of ramps at differing heights.

I’ve always liked career day where you can visit the police station, fire station, and other local choices. Sometimes we do one at school for example a chef comes in and we cook pizza. Or a local artist gave us do an art project like a self portrait. I can always tie a trip to standards with read alouds or math units.

UMB Bank sponsors what they call The School of Economics here in KC. Kids run businesses, create and sell products, and elect government. This trip covers our economics standards. We also do a TON of digital field trips—I just booked 4 today for later this spring! The Center for Interactive Learning and Collaboration have some great trips, and many are free! Even those that are not free tend to be pretty reasonable per student.

Our field trips have to be tied to our standards. We go to the Challenger Center ( different programs for K5 dealing with space). We go to St Augustine for Florida history. Being in the capital city, we visit the Capitol building for civics and government. We are fortunate to have a mission that has re-enactments for Spanish and Appalachee life.
