How do you hold students accountable during centers? Specifically for second through fifth grade. Some teachers at my school are struggling with this and would love some additional ideas to share!

1.Make sure that your students know the goal and deadline for each task.
2. Create exit tickets for each center.
3. Celebrate each student's completed center.

We are a Leader in Me school - and Accountabiity Partners are key!

My students have notebooks that they use to show their work when they are at a center. This holds them accountable.

We use task sheets that have to be completed. Expectations are set at the beginning of school: if the task sheet is not complete, it is sent home and a parent signature is required with an explanation of why it is not complete.

Each day of the week has a must do for each group. If it is not completed, the student misses our positive behavior celebration on Friday.

For my class, I include some digital stations (i.e. Chromebook based practice). The program we use (i-Ready) allows me to see what work has been completed. Most platforms offer this kind of monitoring. I post student names and update as students complete these tasks throughout the week.

A good resource is Visible Learning based off of the work by John Hattie. One of our schools is a visible learning school, the only one in our state!
Our school is doing a book study on clarity for learning and a big component is answering the question (kids answering) what am I learning, and how will I know when I’ve learned it? It’s a natural accountability system that is embedded in the culture of learning.
