As a Stem school, we host a family stem night each spring. What are some go to ideas for stations or ideas for community partnership? We’re always looking to expand our reach!

This sounds amazing! A few ideas are:

*Engineering Challenges: Build structures with marshmallows and toothpicks or design and test paper airplanes.

*Math Games: Set up math puzzles, tangrams, or math bingo to make learning fun.Interactive Displays: Create interactive displays on topics like the solar system, the water cycle, or simple machines.

*Invention Station: Provide materials for kids to create their own inventions or art pieces using recycled materials.

*Career Exploration: Invite STEM professionals to talk about their careers and offer insights into the various fields of STEM.

*Community Partnerships: Partner with local STEM organizations, museums, or universities to provide additional resources or hands-on activities. You could also collaborate with local libraries, science centers, or nature centers to provide additional resources or expertise! Additionally, reaching out to universities or colleges for student volunteers or guest speakers could be interesting!

We have a STEM read aloud room where students can hear stories about a diverse group of individuals in different STEM careers.

One room did parent/student Gimkit games that lasted 10 minutes each.

Another room does toothpick and marshmallow towers.

We learn about camouflage and mimicry. My class designs construction paper insects that might live in our classroom and hide them around the room. On STEAM night, visitors look to see how many they can find.

Whenever I see the word STEM - Legos pop into my mind... I think of all the ways Legos build literacy skills. You can attach words to Lego pieces to from new words; or add a word to each block and build sentences - and/or paragraphs; you can also read the directions - this is great for more proficient readers etc!

Perhaps setting up a table for parents to sign up to share their STEM related professions with a class of the school? Also, a sign up in classrooms to host a STEM activity in class.
